Navigating 2025 Immigration Law & Policy: New Developments and Best Practices

This presentation for paralegals will provide an overview of recent changes - and continuities - in immigration law and their practical impact on law firm clients across several practice areas. It will examine current immigration enforcement trends, identifying which clients are most at risk, the consequences of detention, and strategies lawyers can use to mitigate these risks for non-citizen clients. Finally, the session will cover best practices for effectively representing non-citizen clients in a rapidly evolving legal landscape, including thorough client screening, risk assessment, and spotting opportunities to support and protect clients' interests.

Miriam has been licensed in Virginia for 16 years. She founded her practice 10 years ago and it has grown to a 30-person, women-led immigration law firm handling all types of immigration cases.

Miriam is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. She sits on the board of the Blue Sky Fund, and hosts a weekly call-in radio show on local Spanish language radio stations to answer questions about immigration law.
